MECKLERMEDIA CORPORATION'S ISPCON FALL '98 TO OFFER BLUE-RIBBON LINUX PANEL

(WESTPORT, CT- September 9, 1998)- Mecklermedia Corporation, "The Internet Media Company" (Nasdaq: MECK), announced that ISPCON Fall '98 will hold a special panel, "Linux and the Open Source Business Model of the Future, Or How Linux Got So Dang Hot!" The ISPCON Fall '98 conference and exhibition runs September 28 through October 1, at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, California. ISPCON Fall '98, is produced by Mecklermedia and hosted by Boardwatch Magazine.

The Linux panel, to be held Tuesday, September 29 at 2:45 p.m. in the main Ballroom, will focus on the future of the Linux operating system. Industry luminaries participating on the panel include: Linus Torvalds, inventor of Linuxª; Sean Maloney, Intel corporate vice president; Marc Andreesen, Netscape co-founder and executive vice president; and Robert F. Young, president of Red Hat Software.

They will discuss Linux's development approach, its Open Source distribution model, and the acceptance it has achieved in business applications. Debate will ensue over hot-button issues including: Is Linux ready for today's mission--critical Web-based e-business and transaction processing systems? Can Linux outstrip commercial operating environments? Will hardware developers jump on board the Linux bandwagon? And, where is the Linux development community going to turn its efforts next? The Linux panel may well prove to be one of the most dynamic and controversial conference sessions of ISPCON Fall '98.
