MECKLERMEDIA ACQUIRES WEB DEVELOPERS VIRTUAL LIBRARY (WDVL), A LEADING INTERNET DEVELOPER SITE FOR ITS INTERNET.COM WEB SITE; MONTHLY PAGE VIEWS FOR INTERNET.COM WILL SURPASS 10 MILLION AS MECKLERMEDIA ACQUIRES ITS 14th WEB SITE

(WESTPORT, CT--March 9, 1998)--Mecklermedia Corporation (Nasdaq: MECK) today announced its acquisition of Web Developer's Virtual Library (WDVL), a comprehensive encyclopedia of web technology and techniques for web masters, designers and developers. Late last week, Mecklermedia announced its purchase of PCWebopaedia.com (March 5, 1998). Terms of neither acquisition were disclosed.

"The WDVL site explores the frontier of Web technology," said Alan M. Meckler, chairman and CEO of Mecklermedia. "Their editorial team, headed by founder Alan Richmond, has created a site of international renown, continuously cited as one of the best in the field of Web development content. The WDVL site is an outstanding addition to our growing network of Internet.com sites which provide information and tutorials for a vibrant community of Web professionals. Additionally, this acquisition will consolidate our hold as the top developer site on the Web and will add sorely needed additional advertising banner inventory in one of the hottest areas of web ad spending."

The acquisition strengthens Internet.com's position as a leading provider of information for the Web development community. Other Internet.com sites for this community includes WebDeveloper.com, WebReference.com and Java Boutique.

Founded in 1994 as a hot list on computers at NASA, (http://www.wdvl.com or http://www.stars.com) is the oldest commercial site for Web development resources. Richmond joins the staff of Internet.com as Managing Editor of WDVL.

"The WDVL audience, comprised of Web masters, developers, and designers, are critical influencers in purchasing technology products and telecommunications services," said Chris Elwell, vice president and general manager of Internet.com. "Adding WDVL to our critically acclaimed group of developer resources ensures that our clients can communicate their marketing broadly and efficiently," Elwell added.

Mecklermedia's Internet.com Web site, recently cited by PC Magazine (February 15, 1998) as having 4 of the best 28 computing sites in the world, provides real-time news and information resources for Internet professionals and Web developers.
