MECKLERMEDIA, "THE INTERNET MEDIA COMPANY," ADDS CISCO, EBAY, AND BEYOND.COM TO ITS ISDEX INTERNET STOCK INDEX

(WESTPORT, CT-October 14, 1998)-Mecklermedia, "The Internet Media Company" (Nasdaq: MECK) has added three new stocks to its ISDEX Internet Stock Index, the only 100% pure Internet stock index featuring 50 leading Wall Street companies. The new additions, all traded on Nasdaq, are: Internet router leader Cisco (CSCO), Internet personal auction leader eBay, Inc. (EBAY), and Internet software retailer Beyond.com (BYND).

"Even with the roller coaster ride that Internet stocks took in the third quarter of 1998, 34 of the 50 ISDEX listings are on the rise year to date," stated Alan M. Meckler, chairman and CEO of Mecklermedia Corporation. "Successful companies like networking leader Cisco, top software reseller Beyond.com, and the rapidly growing eBay are proof that Internet stocks deserve a spotlight on Wall Street." Cisco Systems, Inc., headquartered in San Jose, California, is the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet. Their products include routers, LAN and ATM switches, dial-up access servers and network management software. These products, integrated by the Cisco IOS software, link geographically dispersed LANs, WANs and IBM networks.

eBay, Inc. operates an online person-to-person trading community in which buyers and sellers are brought together in an auction format to trade personal items such as computers, antiques, coins, collectibles, memorabilia, stamps and toys. Since its inception in 1995, eBay has offered over 24 million items, and has averaged over 12 million page views per day.

Beyond.com, formerly Software.net Corporation, is an online reseller of off-the-shelf computer software to the consumer, small business and large enterprise markets. Beyond.com recently went public in June 1998 and offers over 33,000 software products from Microsoft, Adobe, Lotus, Sun Microsystems and Symantec, to name a few. Their partners include America Online, Excite, Microsoft and Netscape Communications. They currently have 1,500 companies in their Affiliates Program.

"Cisco, ebay and Beyond.com are three examples of the dynamic diversity of Internet stocks and how the 50-stock ISDEX is the complete index of reference for the group on Wall Street," said Steve Harmon, a top Internet stock analyst and Mecklermedia's vice president of business development. Mr. Harmon files a daily briefing on Internet stocks and the industry in Mecklermedia's Internet Stock Report, which features ISDEX online, part of the Internet.com network.
