JUPITER RESEARCH TO LAUNCH MULTICLIENT STUDY ON WI-FI HOTSPOTS

(New York, NY - June 23, 2003) - Jupitermedia Corporation (Nasdaq: JUPM) today announced just prior to its 802.11 Planet Conference & Expo -- taking place at the World Trade Center in Boston this Wednesday through Friday, June 25-27 -- that its Jupiter Research division is launching a new multiclient study to explore the market opportunity for Wi-Fi Hotspots. Leading brands such as Starbucks and Marriott have recently struck partnerships and launched aggressive Wi-Fi initiatives. While many expect bottom-line contributions, few can articulate how to measure the value around these efforts.

"Recent initiatives like Verizon's deployment in Manhattan offering free Wi-Fi to DSL customers will impact the 802.11 only providers' ability to collect revenue for Wi-Fi alone if they become more popular and widespread," said Michael Gartenberg, Vice President and Research Director at Jupiter Research. "This exciting new study continues to demonstrate Jupiter Research's unsurpassed leadership role in covering the critical areas of technology and making it accessible and relevant to business users," added Gartenberg.

Jupiter Research will collaborate with technology vendors, service providers and end-users on this multiclient study to gain insight into the market opportunity. This multiclient study also intends to clarify revenue opportunities at different points along the value chain of public Hotspot services. The research will provide insight so that technology vendors, service providers and other interested parties will be armed with tools to help them evaluate and prioritize public wireless LAN product and service initiatives and ultimately develop winning strategies. Areas of consideration include venue, aggregation, customer care, billing, systems integration and more.

Key questions that will be addressed include:

  • How can participants at each link of the value chain evaluate the associated opportunity? (Revenue, product/ brand differentiation, etc.)
  • How much revenue will a Hotspot need to generate to deliver profitability at each link of the value chain?
  • How many Hotspots (or Networks) will the market support?
  • How will emerging technologies change the business model and opportunities?

This multiclient study will leverage Jupiter Research's unique relationships in the 802.11, telecom and technology marketplaces to offer vendors and service providers valuable, go-to-market recommendations for selling, bundling, and driving awareness in the public Hotspot market. Jupiter Research will facilitate a forum in which market leaders will collaborate on the specific design, direction, and intentions of this research study.

There are limited sponsorship opportunities available for charter participants. Interested parties should contact Kieran Kelly at [email protected] or 212-389-2032 for more details.
