JUPITER RESEARCH REPORTS THAT SPAIN HAS THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF INTERNET HOUSEHOLDS WITH BROADBAND IN EUROPE

(London, U.K. - September 24, 2003) -- The latest findings from Jupiter Research, a division of Jupitermedia Corporation (Nasdaq: JUPM), report that at the end of 2002, Spain had the highest percentage of Internet households with broadband (37%) in Western Europe, in spite of having some of the highest basic monthly fees in the region.

Jupiter Research forecasts that Spain's 1.0 million broadband households at the end of 2002 will quadruple to 4.0 million by 2008, representing 67% percent of Internet households, the highest rate in Western Europe. Broadband households will outnumber dial-up households by 2004. By contrast, just 8% of Internet households in Italy had a broadband connection, even though basic monthly fees are lower than Spain.

The results of home broadband price analysis for Spain carried out by Jupiter Research show that the average cost for 0.5 megabit per second broadband speed service is one of the highest in Europe: €73 compared to just €36 in Italy. The pay-per-minute pricing model has hindered broadband uptake in Italy compared to Spain, as it is not conducive to file sharing activity, which is a key driver of broadband uptake. Spanish consumers have also benefited from strong competition between broadband Internet Service Providers (ISPs) resulting in Spain being one of the first markets to offer activation, modem and set-up packages for no fee, making adoption easier and more convenient, further stimulating broadband growth.

"Spain's broadband market is unusual in that such high rates of broadband adoption have occurred while Internet adoption as a whole is relatively low, compared to the northern European markets," said Lourdes Salcedo, Research Associate at Jupiter Research. "Competitive pricing and a wide range of subscriber packages have been crucial to strong consumer adoption and will remain central to the continued strong growth of broadband adoption in Spain," added Salcedo.

The complete findings of this report are immediately available to Jupiter Research clients online.
